Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, reaffirming the long-standing friendship between India and Egypt and discussing ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Following the meeting, PM Modi highlighted the strong historical bonds shared by the two nations and reiterated India's commitment to strengthening ties with one of its key partners in Africa and the Arab world.

The leaders reviewed progress in bilateral relations and explored opportunities to expand cooperation across several strategic sectors.

India and Egypt share a relationship rooted in centuries of civilisational exchanges and strengthened through their collaboration during the Non-Aligned Movement era. In recent years, the partnership has expanded significantly in areas such as trade, defence, culture and strategic engagement.

Egypt remains an important economic partner for India, with bilateral trade exceeding USD 7 billion annually.

Trade between the two countries spans a wide range of sectors, including engineering goods, chemicals, textiles, crude oil and fertilisers. Defence cooperation has also grown steadily through joint military exercises, training programmes and technology exchanges.

The leaders reviewed progress since elevating ties to a Strategic Partnership in 2023 and discussed expanding cooperation in renewable energy, digital technologies and defence manufacturing.

They also exchanged views on global issues affecting the Global South and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening India-Egypt strategic cooperation and bilateral engagement.
