Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly elevated Assam's cultural identity on the global platform.
Addressing a public rally in Hailakandi district, he outlined key initiatives undertaken by the Centre and the state government.
Shah highlighted that the traditional Assamese 'gamocha' has gained international recognition under the current dispensation. In an indirect critique of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he alleged that Gandhi once refused to wear a gamcha at a Republic Day function.
He also stated that the government honoured Ahom general Lachit Borphukan by installing a grand statue in New Delhi, ensuring global recognition of his legacy.
The Home Minister emphasised land rights reforms, noting that nearly 3.5 lakh tea garden families across 707 estates have received land ownership pattas.
He added that the first phase has concluded in 106 gardens spanning 20 districts.
Shah underlined major policy decisions, including the abolition of triple talaq, and criticised the Congress for opposing it.
He further noted that 402 madrasas have been converted into primary schools as part of educational reforms.
Advocating the Uniform Civil Code, he said it would ensure equality and curb practices such as multiple marriages. He urged voters to support the BJP to enable its implementation.
On welfare measures, Shah promised to increase farmer assistance from Rs 6,000 to Rs 11,000 annually, provide tractor subsidies to 10,000 farmers, and ensure MSP procurement for key crops.
He also pledged free education for underprivileged children, subsidised essentials, free rice, and Rs 3,000 monthly DBT for women.
Addressing a rally in Patharkandi, he accused illegal migrants of depriving locals of opportunities and vowed strict action against infiltration.
