Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that India and Cyprus have elevated their bilateral ties to the level of a strategic partnership following talks with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, PM Modi described President Christodoulides' India visit as an important milestone in the growing relationship between the two countries.

He highlighted the strong trust and cooperation shared by India and Cyprus across several sectors, including trade, investment, technology and innovation.

PM Modi said Cyprus is among India's top ten investors, with investments nearly doubling over the past decade.

He added that both nations aim to further expand economic ties over the next five years. PM Modi also recalled his 2025 Cyprus visit, during which he received the country's highest civilian honour.

PM Modi thanked President Christodoulides for his warm hospitality and highlighted the growing strength of India-Cyprus relations, describing the partnership as 'strong and futuristic' and rooted in shared democratic values and the rule of law.

He reaffirmed India's consistent stand on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.

The two leaders also discussed major regional and global developments, including conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine. PM Modi reiterated India's support for peaceful solutions and diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability and ending ongoing conflicts.

He further stressed the need for urgent reforms in global institutions to effectively address emerging international challenges.

President Nikos Christodoulides used his visit to strengthen India-Cyprus cooperation in strategic, economic and geopolitical sectors.

Both nations also explored new opportunities in investment, technology, education, innovation, defence, connectivity and India-EU cooperation.
