US President Donald Trump and senior officials were evacuated from the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night after multiple gunshots were reported, triggering panic among attendees.

No immediate injuries were reported.

According to witnesses, several gunshots, estimated between five and eight, were heard inside the packed venue in Washington, DC.

Secret Service agents and security personnel swiftly entered the hall, urging guests to take cover.

Attendees, including journalists, celebrities, and political leaders, ducked under tables as chaos unfolded.

The venue was quickly evacuated, with National Guard personnel deployed inside. Guests were escorted out under tight security and were not allowed to re-enter the premises.

Authorities have yet to confirm the precise nature of the incident. A law enforcement official, however, indicated that a shooter was involved.

Following the incident, Trump confirmed via social media that the situation had been brought under control and praised the swift response of security forces.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we "LET THE SHOW GO ON" but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we'll just, plain, have to do it again. President DONALD J. TRUMP."

Key figures present included First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance, all of whom were reported safe. CNN also confirmed that Cabinet members were unharmed.

Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin described the chaos, stating, "I think a Secret Service agent threw me to the ground and on top of some other people and people were screaming and yelling."

Investigations are ongoing as authorities assess the situation.
