Sameer Rizvi's 90 Powers Delhi Capitals To Six-Wicket Win Over Mumbai Indians

Sameer Rizvi delivered a match-winning performance for Delhi Capitals, smashing a swashbuckling 90 off 51 balls to seal a clinical six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

It was the second consecutive game where Rizvi transformed the course of a chase, helping DC register back-to-back wins.

Chasing 163 on a slow black-soil pitch that improved for batting, DC found themselves at 73/3 before Rizvi took control. He struck seven fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 176.47, stitching crucial partnerships of 66 with Pathum Nissanka (44) and an unbeaten 78 with David Miller (21*) to guide the hosts home with 11 balls to spare.

Delhi's chase began shakily with early dismissals of KL Rahul and Nitish Rana.

Nissanka counterattacked with aggressive strokeplay before falling for 44. Rizvi, initially cautious, accelerated dramatically, particularly targeting the spinners. He reached his half-century in 31 balls and dominated the middle overs, taking apart Corbin Bosch, Mitchell Santner, and Shardul Thakur with a range of attacking shots.

Although he fell 10 runs short of a century, his innings had already ensured victory for DC.

Earlier, stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav led the Mumbai Indians with a composed 51, supported by Rohit Sharma's 35 in a 53-run partnership. MI, however, struggled to accelerate in the death overs. They managed only 38 runs in the last four overs to finish at 162/6.

Mukesh Kumar was the standout bowler for DC with figures of 2-26, while Axar Patel also chipped in.

Despite late contributions from Mitchell Santner and Corbin Bosch, MI's total proved insufficient.

Rizvi's seven sixes equalled the most by a DC batter against MI in IPL history. It also marked one of the highest scores for the franchise against the five-time champions.

As an Impact Player, only Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan have recorded higher individual scores in a single IPL innings.

Brief Scores:

Mumbai Indians 162/6 (Suryakumar Yadav 51, Rohit Sharma 35; Mukesh Kumar 2-26) lost to Delhi Capitals 164/4 (Sameer Rizvi 90, Pathum Nissanka 44) by six wickets.
