US President Donald Trump unveiled plans for a new 'drone-proof' White House ballroom, describing it as a military-grade structure designed to strengthen security at the presidential complex while serving as a venue for major ceremonial events.
During a walkthrough of the construction site in Washington with reporters, Trump said the ballroom would become 'one of the most beautiful buildings' in the United States and called it a gift to the nation, funded by himself and private donors.
The President said the structure would feature advanced security systems, including a reinforced roof capable of supporting military operations and drone technology. Trump described the rooftop as a 'drone port' designed to accommodate large numbers of drones for security and operational purposes.
According to Trump, the complex would connect to underground infrastructure extending six storeys below ground level.
Trump said the underground section would include a hospital and research facilities, while the ballroom would protect the infrastructure below.
He added that the structure would feature reinforced steel, thick security glass and internally secured ventilation systems. Trump also said the design draws inspiration from Greek, Roman and US Supreme Court architecture.
Trump said the project remains ahead of schedule despite expanded military requirements and noted that private donors have contributed nearly 400 million US dollars.
He added that the new ballroom would replace temporary event tents on the White House South Lawn and provide a permanent, secure venue for major gatherings.
