Vijay Keeps Key Portfolios As Tamil Nadu Government Finalises Cabinet Allocation

Bharat Express 2 days ago

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has retained crucial portfolios such as Home, Public Administration and Police as the state government formally finalised the allocation of departments among ministers sworn in on May 10.

The portfolio distribution, approved by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on the recommendation of the Chief Minister, marks a key administrative step for the newly formed government as it moves towards establishing its governance structure and policy agenda.

The allocation reflects the administration's focus on maintaining direct control over core governance and law-and-order functions while assigning sector-specific responsibilities to cabinet ministers.

As Chief Minister, Vijay will oversee several major departments, including Public Administration, Police, Home Affairs, Special Programme Implementation, Women Welfare, Youth Welfare, Children's Welfare, welfare of senior citizens and differently abled persons, along with Municipal Administration and Urban Water Supply.

The decision places some of the state's most influential departments directly under his supervision.

N. Anand has been assigned Rural Development and Water Resources, including irrigation and poverty alleviation programmes. Aadhav Arjuna will handle Public Works and Sports Development, while Dr K.G. Arunraj has been given Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare.

Senior leader KA Sengottaiyan will oversee Finance, including pensions and pension allowances. P. Venkataramanan has been entrusted with Food and Civil Supplies, while R. Nirmalkumar will manage Energy Resources and Law, covering electricity, courts, prisons and legislative affairs.

Rajmohan has been allocated School Education, Tamil Development and Information and Publicity. Dr TK Prabhu will oversee Natural Resources and mining-related sectors.

Industries and Investment Promotion portfolios have been assigned to Selvi S. Keerthana, the youngest member of the cabinet.

With the allocation process completed, the Vijay government is now expected to focus on policy implementation, administrative restructuring and preparations for its first full-fledged Assembly session.
