Director and actor RJ Balaji has appealed to audiences and theatre staff to show compassion and sensitivity during screenings of Karuppu, starring Suriya.
His appeal comes after some moviegoers appeared emotionally overwhelmed while watching the film. Others were seen having spiritual reactions during screenings.
RJ Balaji shared a statement titled 'With Gratitude, and a Gentle Request'. He thanked audiences for the overwhelming response to the film.
The actor-director said he was grateful for the support. He also acknowledged the emotional connection viewers have shown towards the movie.
"To every single one of you who has walked into theatres and embraced Karuppu: THANK YOU! The love you've shown this film has been overwhelming, and beyond anything we imagined when we set out to make it," he wrote.
RJ Balaji said the film had triggered deeply emotional reactions among audiences across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
"We're hearing stories from across Tamil Nadu and beyond - of audiences cheering, weeping, and in many instances, being so deeply moved that they've experienced something far greater than cinema," he stated.
RJ Balaji further said that some viewers had experienced a sense of 'divine intervention' during screenings. He described it as the 'highest blessing' the film could receive.
The filmmaker then requested audiences to extend kindness towards anyone appearing affected during screenings.
"If you happen to be seated near someone who appears to be touched by divine energy during a screening, please be kind. Please be present," he said, urging people to assist such individuals with water, space, and support while informing theatre staff when necessary.
RJ Balaji also appealed to exhibitors and theatre managements across Tamil Nadu to prepare staff members for such situations. He urged them to handle these moments with sensitivity and dignity.
"Karuppu belongs to the people now. The faith you've brought into the theatre is what has made this film what it is," he added.
The film features Suriya, Trisha Krishnan, and RJ Balaji in lead roles, with music composed by Sai Abhyankkar.
