BMW F 450 GS Spotted Testing In Europe Again

The baby GS looks production ready; Will rival the Honda NX500, KTM 390 Adventure and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

Quick News Highlights:

  • BMW F 450 GS to debut at EICMA in Italy in November 2025

  • Powered by a 450cc, twin-cylinder engine co-developed with TVS

  • India launch expected by early 2026

First revealed as a concept at the EICMA show in Italy last year, the now close-to-production version of the BMW F 450 GS has now been spotted testing again overseas, giving a closer look at what's to come.

Design

The production-spec F 450 GS appears to carry over several design cues from the concept model and its bigger sibling, the BMW R 1300 GS. It retains a muscular stance, beak-style front fender, and overall proportions. However, the test mule gets a noticeable change: a vertical dual-LED headlight instead of the concept's X-shaped design. The motorcycle also gets alloy wheels instead of wire-spoke wheels, bigger exhaust, larger windscreen, pillion grab handles, sump guard, and saddle stays - some of which may be offered as accessories.

Engine

The F 450 GS will use a 450cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine developed jointly by BMW and TVS, producing 48PS. Production of the motorcycle will happen at TVS' bikes plant in Hosur - which could help BMW offer competitive pricing in key markets.

Underpinnings

The BMW F 450 GS has a steel tube frame, long-travel suspension at both ends, though these recent spy shots suggest the fork may be non-adjustable on the standard version. Official weight isn't confirmed, but the concept bike weighed 175kg kerb - expect the production bike to be heavier. The bike rolls on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel, with Maxxis Maxxplore tyres instead of the more aggressive knobby tyres shown on the concept - though we could get different tyres in India.

Features

The F 450 GS comes with a full-color TFT console, smartphone connectivity and navigation. Spy shots reveal a rotary dial controller on the left handlebar - a feature commonly found on larger BMW bikes. Additional expected features include cornering ABS, traction control, multiple riding modes (this one's confirmed as it's seen on the console), and switchable dual-channel ABS. BMW has also said a semi-automatic gearbox (likely called 'Shift Assist') will be offered as an option (different and more cost effective as compared to the R 1300 GS).

Rivals

The BMW F 450 GS will compete with twin-cylinder adventure motorcycles including the Honda NX500, Benelli TRK 502, upcoming CFMoto 450MT and Aprilia Tuareg 457. It will also rival single-cylinder Adv bikes like the Royal Enfield Himalayan and KTM 390 Adventure.

Launch, Price And Other Details

The F 450 GS is shaping up to be a promising option in the ever expanding entry level adventure bike segment. While the BMW G 310 GS left a lot to be desired in terms of sheer performance, the 450 GS will plug this gap with the much more powerful and refined twin-cylinder engine. Its global debut is expected at the 2025 EICMA show in November this year in Italy, and an India launch could follow soon after, possibly by early 2026. Even though it's manufactured by TVS, it will still be fairly expensive, probably at around Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom).
