One of them is the best-selling 125cc bike in India, but the other one is sportier. We compare them specification-wise
The 125cc commuter segment is dominated by the Honda Shine 125 in terms of sales.
However, Honda also offers something slightly sporty for those looking for a youthful-looking bike, called the SP125. They're based on the same platform but a closer look reveals subtle differences in performance, features, and design. Which one offers the perfect balance of efficiency, technology, and comfort? Let's compare the top variants of the two bikes to find out:
Engine
Specifications | Honda Shine 125 Disc | Honda SP125 DLX |
Engine | 123.94cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine | 123.94cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine |
Power | 10.78PS at 7,500rpm | 10.88PS at 7,500rpm |
Torque | 11Nm at 6,000rpm | 10.9Nm at 6,000rpm |
Gearbox | 5-speed | 5-speed |
Both motorcycles share the same 125cc platform, but the Honda SP125 offers a slightly higher power output. The Shine's engine tuning focuses on smoother power delivery, refinement and mileage, while the SP125 should feel slightly more responsive.

Underpinnings
Specifications | Honda Shine 125 Disc | Honda SP125 DLX |
Frame | Diamond type | Diamond type |
Front suspension | Telescopic | Telescopic |
Rear suspension | Dual shock absorbers | Dual shock absorbers |
Front brake | 240mm disc | 240mm disc |
Rear brake | 130mm drum | 130mm drum |
Front tyre | 80/100-18 M/C 47P, Tubeless | 80/100-18 M/C 47P, Tubeless |
Rear tyre | 90/90-18 M/C 51P, Tubeless | 100/80-18 M/C 53P, Tubeless |
The SP125 runs slightly wider rear tyres, which should add a bit more grip and stability. Otherwise, both use similar frames and suspension setups aimed at comfortable everyday commuting. Both motorcycles also come with a combined braking system, which should help in braking. Sadly, there's no ABS in either, even as a variant.

Dimensions

Ground clearance | 162mm | 160mm |
Wheelbase | 1285mm | 1285mm |
Kerb weight | 113kg | 117kg |
Both bikes are very similar in terms of dimensions, with very small differences in some aspects. Sure, the SP125 may be 4kg heavier, but the slightly sportier nature of the engine should mask the extra weight.

The SP125 feels more premium with Bluetooth connectivity, TFT display and LED headlight and taillight, while the Shine 125 keeps things simple but still pretty functional with a fully digital console and all-halogen lighting.

Price & Verdict
Honda Shine 125 Disc | Honda SP125 DLX |
Rs 82,898 | Rs 93,152 |
(prices ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Rs 11,000 premium for the SP125 for a slightly sportier engine and design, more premium console feels a bit much, especially considering the fact that the Shine 125 isn't too far behind in terms of features either. Sure, it loses out on turn-by-turn navigation, but that's not really deal-breaking. If you're looking for a foolproof 125cc bike, then the Shine is a great option, and won't make you feel like you've compromised. However, if you feel looks and overall sporty feel are more important in a motorcycle, then you may go with the SP125.
