However, due to delays in post-production and a few other reasons, its release was pushed ahead.

Aamir Khan also shared that he wanted to release Ek Din around the same date as his own debut film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak for emotional reasons. Everyone knows that Aamir Khan's first film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, directed by Mansoor Khan, was released on April 29, 1988. That is why Ek Din is now being released on May 1, 2026. Aamir repeatedly emphasized that this decision is deeply emotional for him.

Although Mansoor Khan has stayed away from filmmaking for many years after directing Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, he has joined hands again with Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit to produce Ek Din under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions.

The film has been shot in beautiful locations across Japan. It is directed by Sunil Pandey, for whom this is the first film as a director. Earlier, Sunil Pandey worked as an assistant director on films like Rang De Basanti and Taare Zameen Par.

During the conversation, Aamir Khan also admitted that he liked Junaid's previous film Loveyapa. He said Junaid played a challenging role that was quite different from his real personality. However, the film did not perform well at the box office. Still, Aamir expressed strong confidence that Ek Din will appeal to audiences across all age groups and sections.

The music of the film is composed by Ram Sampath, while the lyrics are written by Irshad Kamil. The screenplay has been written by Sneha Desai and Spandan Mishra.

Earlier, Junaid Khan had appeared in a small role as Rizwan in the film Jalsa, directed by Suresh Triveni, which started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on March 18, 2022. Later, he played the lead role in Maharaj, directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, which premiered on Netflix on June 21, 2024. After that, he appeared again in the lead role in Loveyapa, directed by Advait Chandan, which was released in theatres on February 7, 2025. The film was made on a budget of about ₹60 crore but managed to earn only around ₹9 crore at the box office.

As far as Ek Din is concerned, it is not an original film. It is the official Hindi remake of the 2016 Thai blockbuster One Day. The original Thai film was widely appreciated for its emotional depth and unique storytelling. Ek Din attempts to adapt the same magical yet slightly tragic narrative into an Indian setting.

The story revolves around Rohan (Junaid Khan), who secretly loves his colleague Meera (Sai Pallavi). During an office trip to Japan, he gets the chance to spend just one day with her due to a miraculous situation, when Meera temporarily loses her memory.

The film brings together both experienced and new actors. Junaid Khan plays the role of Rohan, while Sai Pallavi portrays Meera. This film also marks Sai Pallavi's Bollywood debut. She is also the same actress who is playing Sita in Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari.

In the story, Rohan is an IT geek who is usually unnoticed by others, while Meera is the most popular girl in the office. After an accident, she suffers from Transient Global Amnesia, due to which she forgets the past four years of her life and regains her memory only for 24 hours at a time. During this one day, Rohan becomes her boyfriend.
