In the world of Indian OTT entertainment, crime and police dramas continue to attract audiences. After the success of series like Mirzapur, director Neeraj Pathak returns with Inspector Avinash Season 2. The new season takes the story forward while adding more depth to the narrative.
At the center of the story is Avinash Mishra, played by Randeep Hooda, a tough police officer known for over 100 encounters and several controversies. This season highlights his growing influence as a key figure trying to restore law and order. Story
The second season is once again set in the backdrop of 1990s Uttar Pradesh. The story begins immediately after the events of the previous season, taking viewers back into the same chaotic and violent world.
STF officer Avinash Mishra and his team are now chasing a massive arms-smuggling network spread across Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. The gang is led by Sheikh (played by Amit Sial) and Devi (played by Abhimanyu Singh), both portrayed as ruthless criminals. Amid rising crime, political pressure, and violent gangs, the fight to restore peace and law becomes increasingly dangerous.
At the same time, Avinash faces a deeply personal crisis. His son becomes a suspect in the murder of a classmate inside a school washroom. This subplot adds emotional weight and seriousness to the story. Avinash's relationship with his wife Poonam, played by Urvashi Rautela, is already strained, making his personal struggles even more intense.
Whether Avinash succeeds in handling the arms mafia, saving his family, and protecting his son is something viewers will discover by watching the series.

Performances
The biggest strength of the series is undoubtedly Randeep Hooda. He does not portray Avinash merely as a fearless 'supercop,' but also as a tired human being, a responsible father, and an honest officer battling a broken system. His screen presence is commanding, and whenever he appears, the rest of the cast fades into the background.
Urvashi Rautela leaves an impact despite having a limited role, especially in emotional scenes involving her son. Amit Sial creates fear and mystery with a restrained performance as Sheikh. Meanwhile, Abhimanyu Singh brings a wild and aggressive energy to the character of Devikant, though at times his performance feels slightly over-the-top.
Actors like Rajneesh Duggal, Shalin Bhanot, Zakir Hussain, and Freddy Daruwala also do justice to their supporting roles.

Writing and Direction
Neeraj Pathak's direction remains bold and effective, much like Season 1. He successfully captures the atmosphere of 1990s Uttar Pradesh - especially the streets of Lucknow and Kanpur - with realism, heat, dust, and grit that make the world feel authentic.
However, the writing feels weaker this time. Dialogues inspired by the old 'Mirzapur-style' crime dramas, such as 'Hum Yamraj hain' ('We are the god of death') or 'Kanoon hamare jooton ke neeche hai' ('The law lies beneath our shoes'), now sound repetitive and outdated. Familiar visual clichés involving smoke, alcohol, and mujra sequences are also overused, making the series feel somewhat old-fashioned.
Had this series released a few years earlier, it might have felt far more impressive. Today, it struggles to feel fresh.

Why You Should Watch It
Overall, Inspector Avinash Season 2 is a decent choice for viewers who enjoy raw, desi-style police dramas. It does not attempt to explore deep philosophical debates about morality and law; instead, it focuses on fast-paced storytelling and atmosphere.
Randeep Hooda's powerful performance and Chirantan Das's cinematography make the series worth watching despite its flaws.
