Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming film Jana Nayaganhas fallen victim to piracy even before its release, causing a stir in the entire film industry.
As soon as the HD print was leaked online, many actors and makers from Tamil and Telugu cinema expressed their displeasure. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan strongly condemned the incident, calling piracy a serious problem and, without naming anyone, questioned the role of the CBFC.
Kamal Haasan expresses displeasure over Jana Nayakan leak
Speaking about the leak, Kamal Haasan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), " The leak ofJana Nayaganis no accident - it's the result of a system failure. If the proper process had been followed in a timely manner, we wouldn't be here. The inordinate delay in certification created a fertile ground for piracy. When legal access is blocked, illegal channels take over."
Continuing his point, Kamal Haasan further said, "Piracy goes beyond politics; it is an attack on art and the artist itself. It jeopardizes the work of hundreds of artists and technicians, and the investments of honest, tax-paying producers, exhibitors, and theater owners, all of whom sustain the cinema we love. When the system fails, who protects the creators? We need accountability, immediate certification, strict enforcement, and real-time removal. I am confident that true cinema lovers will come together and give a befitting reply by watching the film legally in theaters, just as you stood with me earlier."
Jana Nayagan leaked online
In fact, on Friday, social media posts surfaced showing high-quality prints of Jana Nayakan being uploaded to piracy sites. Vijay fans urged others not to share the links, but the number of prints online continued to grow. Many pointed out that initially only 5-10 minutes of scenes from the film were shared online, while now the entire film has been uploaded. Many disappointed fans speculated about the source of the leak, as the film is still weeks away from release.
Why is 'Jana Nayagan' facing hurdles in getting a certificate?
The film was originally scheduled to be released on January 9th, coinciding with Pongal, but a few days before its release, the CBFC informed the production company, KVN Productions, that a complaint had been received against the film. Based on this complaint, the decision was made to send the film to a review committee. According to CBFC regulations, a film is not permitted for theatrical release until it receives a censor certificate from the board.
