In keeping with their annual tradition, the Ninth melodious get-together of Amazing Hindi Film Music (AHFM ) a dynamic group formed on Facebook was convened by ardent music-loving dynamic couple Hemant Kothikar and Devayani Kothikar.
This two-sessions dynamic event was held in the presence of iconic music celebs-stalwarts in Mumbai last Saturday on 2nd May 2026,,
Out of two sessions, one was on the music of noted maverick genius composer Salil Chowdhury and was conducted by Salil Da's daughter--singer-composer Antara Chowdhury and his son and background music composer Sanjoy Chowdhury.
The excellent chorus in Salil Da's music and songs the vibrant folk-music he used, his rural inspirations, fusion of folk music and western elements and various such musical topics were covered in this session.
The second session involved Four-times Filmfare Award-winning playback and classical singer 'Padmashri' Kavita Krishnamurti-Subramaniam and in her interview by Hemant Kothikar she recalled her tough yet exciting journey right from her Delhi days till 2026. Kavita shared various amazing stories and amusing anecdotes of her journey in Hindi film music, right from her debut in film Kadambari in 1976 till date, were disclosed by Kavita ji. She sang her famous iconic ( 'Mr India' movie) song Hawa Hawaai's initial adbhut yet amazing mukhdaa and also sang lines of a beautiful song from the film Saaz !
Amazing Hindi Film Music ( AHFM ), a group formed on Facebook by music-loving dynamic couple Hemant and Devayani Kothikar 13 years ago,, has now 8000 plus members and has a unique tradition of celebrating its annual get together in person. Where its members from different distant locations in India come together and celebrate lyrical film music. Apart from the Members' meeting, two stalwart famous artistes are invited in the get-together and their live discussion sessions are conducted over the topics of Hindi film music !
Besides these two lively interactive sessions, this musical get-together was also attended by senior iconic playback singer Shailendra Singh, famous talented film-composers duo Anand Milind, legend Anil Biswas ji's daughter Shikha Vora, legend voice-maestro Ameen Sayani ji's son Rajil Sayani, live-concerts famous live concerts singer "Voice of Rafi-saab" Shrikant Narayan, prolific music-centric publisher-author filmy sangeet-gyaani Vishwas Nerurkar and many others !
When quizzed about her so popular song Hawa Hawaai (Mr India-1987), Kavita ji narrated behind-the-scenes story about the same. She was briefed that revered Javed Akhtar-saab had written the lyrics and she has to sing it as demo-dummy track because Asha ji was supposed to sing-dub it on the same track later for the film ! So when Kavita ji read the song-lyrics, she said she initially got baffled and amused to see names of foreign cities like Honolulu,Mombasa and so many weird scat lyrics-words like Hasifusi Lassi-pissi aakhchiki lakhi chu ! Laughingly Kavita ji started singing and both legendary duo Laxmikant ji Pyarelal ji asked her to be serious--- though the song was funny . So Kavita sang this funny song keeping a serious look on her face all thru. Her song-track was supposed to be sent to Asha-ji who later was to dub-sing for the film. But then top producer Boney Kapoor and eminent director Shekhar Kapur (of film 'Mr India' ) insisted that they retain Kavita ji's fabulous track version in the movie and on the audio-cassettes ! Ultimately this Hawa Hawaai song emerged one of the first major timeless chart-buster songs of Kavita-ji's career !

This year 9th get-together happened as usual in Mumbai and went on for a superb musical aural treat for 15 hours from 8 am till mid-night !
Antara jee and Sanjoy jee spoke about their legendary composer father's music in detail ! Both enthralled the audience, explaining how Salil Da used chorus or folk or western elements in his music ! How his notes were complex and how high and low notes came in quick succession, testing the prowess of the singers! Finally, the whole audience went into musical sync when all of us sang with them a beautiful song 'Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli Haaye' ( cult movie 'Anand') !
Kavita Krishnamurti ji was the special guest for the 2nd session and the audience was already eager to listen her arduous journey as a playback singer ! Kavita's communicative rapport with the audience made even simpler things much more interesting ! She shared her entire journey right from her Delhi days and then her entry into Mumbai ! She also sang for the live audience, with her iconic famous song Hawa Hawaai ( from Mr India movie directed by Shehar Kapur) and also a beautiful song Raat Dhalne Lagi' from film Saaz ! Her session was accompanied by illustrious veteran singer Shailendra Singh and well-known composer duo Anand Milind ( of 'QSQT' cult-movie fame) !
