Amid the glitz and glamour of Bollywood and the race to become a 'superstar,' there are a few actors who prefer to carve their own path.
Ranvir Shorey is one such talented and versatile performer. Recently released on April 10 on ZEE5, the murder mystery Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa features Ranvir Shorey in a pivotal role. The film also stars Vinay Pathak, Saurabh Shukla, Chandrachoor Rai, and Rajat Kapoor. With a unique blend of suspense, drama, and dark humor, the film keeps audiences engaged till the very end.
In a recent conversation, Ranvir Shorey spoke candidly about his role, his experience working on the film, and various aspects of the industry. Here are some key excerpts from the interview:

How was your experience during the shoot of this project?
It was a great experience because most of the cast and crew members were my friends. The biggest factor was that the script was very strong, which made the shoot even more enjoyable. We all stayed together for about a month to a month and a half at a location near Lonavala. The entire film was shot at a single location, and when you have such an environment along with hard work, it makes the process truly enjoyable.
Does your character in the film resemble your real-life personality?
The character I play in the film is quite different from who I am in real life. My character is very intellectual and views everything through an intellectual lens, whereas I am not like that. I am more of an intuitive person. My character is controlled and doesn't react much, while I am more reactive and outspoken. However, there are a few similarities, especially in terms of our perspectives on life.

Did you notice any difference between working in films and on OTT platforms, especially in terms of creative freedom?
With the rise of OTT, the industry has undergone many changes. On one hand, it has created more opportunities for people, but on the other hand, competition has increased significantly due to the internet. However, the reality is that OTT platforms are still somewhat hesitant when it comes to small and medium-budget films. In that sense, ZEE5 giving our film a platform and a release window is a big deal. Otherwise, this is not considered the most favorable time for smaller films.
What has been the most challenging phase of your career as an actor?
The most challenging phase of my life was when I transitioned from working behind the camera to being in front of it. This was around 1997-98. Before that, I worked behind the camera, but then I started doing theatre and gradually entered the world of acting. I initially wanted to become a filmmaker, not an actor, so this shift in my life was not easy. Moving from behind the camera to facing it was a big change, and it took time and courage to adapt. While life always has its ups and downs, this phase was the most defining and challenging for me.

How do you deal with failure and move forward?
I view failure and the lack of work in the same way. Even when I don't have work, I focus on how I can improve myself and my skills. When I face failure, I don't see it as a reason to stop but as an opportunity to learn. I always try to understand what I can do better going forward so that I can perform even better next time.
