Six years after Shakuntala Devi released, Vidya Balan's portrayal of the iconic mathematician remains one of the most nuanced performances of her career.
Instead of reducing Shakuntala Devi to her extraordinary gift with numbers, Vidya celebrated the many contradictions that made her unforgettable-a fearless performer, a global icon, an unconventional thinker, and a woman navigating deeply personal relationships. The result was a portrayal that was both inspiring and profoundly human.

Vidya Balan Shines as Shakuntala Devi
What made the performance truly stand out was Vidya's ability to seamlessly shift between Shakuntala's dazzling public persona and her private emotional world. One moment she commanded the stage with unmatched confidence and infectious humour; the next, she laid bare the insecurities, regrets and complexities of a mother struggling to connect with her daughter. These transitions felt effortless, highlighting an actor completely in command of her craft.

Vidya also brought an unmistakable warmth and spontaneity to the role, ensuring that every triumph and setback felt authentic.
