Actors including Dilip Joshi, Munmun Dutta, Shyam Pathak, Mandar Chandwadkar, Mayur Vakani, and several others shared memorable moments and experiences from their long journey with the iconic sitcom.
Asit Kumar Modi Reflects on the Show's Journey
Opening the press conference, producer Asit Kumar Modi revealed that the show has completed 4,774 episodes. He said entertaining audiences consistently for nearly two decades has never been easy. Creating fresh stories and new comedy every day remains a challenge for the writers and actors, but the team continues to work with the same passion and dedication.
Dilip Joshi Recalls Being Offered Champaklal's Role
Speaking to the media, Dilip Joshi revealed that he was initially offered the role of Champaklal, Jethalal's father. However, he was eventually cast as Jethalal, the character that became his biggest identity. Recalling the incident, Dilip said, 'Asit Bhai asked me to choose between Champaklal and Jethalal. I refused Champaklal because I didn't resemble the character. I was also hesitant about Jethalal because I had grown up reading the Gujarati magazine where the original cartoon depicted him as a very thin man with curly hair. Eventually, I decided to give it a try, and by God's grace, the journey has reached this milestone.' Today, Jethalal is regarded as one of Indian television's most iconic comedy characters.
'Every Day Feels Like a New Beginning' - Dilip Joshi
Dilip Joshi shared that even after 18 years, leaving for the shoot still feels exciting. "It never feels like I've been playing the same character for 18 years. Every day brings a new opportunity to create something fresh. The characters, sets, and actors remain the same, but bringing a new punch to every scene is our biggest challenge." He also thanked producer Asit Kumar Modi, the writers, the technical crew, and Sony SAB for their continuous support.
Asit Modi on Nattu Kaka and Bagha
Asit Modi recalled that after Nattu Kaka (Ghanshyam Nayak) underwent bypass surgery, they introduced Bagha so that Jethalal wouldn't be left alone at Gada Electronics. "Bagha became immensely popular and added a new dimension to the show. Later, when Nattu Kaka recovered and returned from the hospital, he was worried whether he would get his role back. I assured him that he would always remain a part of the family."
Amit Bhatt Shaved His Head for Two Years
Asit Kumar Modi revealed that Amit Bhatt, who plays Champaklal, shaved his head continuously for two years to suit the character's appearance. "He never complained. He sacrificed his hair with complete dedication, almost like offering it to God. That level of commitment deserves immense respect."
Popatlal Jokes About Being Unmarried for 18 Years
Shyam Pathak, who plays Popatlal, humorously remarked that Asit Modi has kept him unmarried for the last 18 years."Hopefully, this year Popatlal will finally get married."
