Ahsoka season 2: Release timeline, cast updates and plot details - Everything we know so far

The excitement for Ahsoka, a Star Wars live-action series, has built to a frenzy. Fans are eager to watch Ahsoka Tano and her comrades build on their Jedi heritage and brave the epic universe once more in the Season Two premiere in 2024, centered around major plots such as new and intense lightsaber battles, uncovering the deeper mysteries about The Force, cross-galactic chases, and emotional reunions.

Fans are thirsting for all the unresolved cliff-hanger endings from Season 1 in 2023 to be resolved with the launch of Star Wars Series: Ahsoka - Season 2, with an all-star cast and executive producer Dave Filoni leading the new content.

Ahsoka Season 2: Release Timeline

The second season of a live-action series expanding the Rebels mythology and growing the threats of Grand Admiral Thrawn was created by Dave Filoni.

After Season 1, the main characters are separated across the galaxies. The story picks up where Season 2 ended.

The premiere date is not yet announced.

Filming took place in the UK from April to early October 2025. The show is currently in post-production. It will stream on Disney+ exclusively in 2026. It is already listed in Disney+'s "Coming Soon in 2026" fall line-up. There will be 8 episodes, just like Season 1.

Considering the significant amount of VFX and similar production timeline delays throughout the franchise, a later 2026 (potentially summer or fall) release is most probable. The release should follow The Mandalorian & Grogu, both of which are currently slated to be released in May 2026.

Ahsoka Season 2: Cast Update

The core cast members will return:

  • Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
  • Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren
  • Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger
  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla
  • Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn
  • Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker

A major casting update sees Rory McCann stepping into the role of Baylan Skoll, following the death of Ray Stevenson, who originated the character in Season 1.

Ivanna Sakhno also returns as Shin Hati. Industry reporting suggests the narrative will centre on seven primary characters: Ahsoka, Sabine, Ezra, Hera, Thrawn, Baylan, and Shin.

No major new additions have been formally announced.

Ahsoka Season 2: Plot Details

The end of Ahsoka's first season left us with Ezra, placed back safely in the New Republic, but Ahsoka and Sabine were left stranded on Peridea. At the same time, Thrawn successfully escaped back into the "main" galaxy he once ruled.

During Season 2, the show will explore three major plotlines:

- The continuing mystery of Peridea; the extragalactic world that connects to ancient Force mythology. Baylan Skoll's last scene - which featured thematic visuals related to the Mortis gods - suggests there will be further developed lore regarding cosmic Force and balance.

- Thrawn's return as a threat to the New Republic will create renewed tension within the Mandoverse as well as add depth to both the characters and the series overall.

- The relationships between Ahsoka and Sabine, Ezra and the New Republic, and Shin after Baylan transitioned into a new belief, will be central to the theme of the second season.

Filoni has always stated that the series will carry on from Rebels because its characters had unfinished stories, and the stakes are at a franchise level.
