The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has issued an Administrative Warning to Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) following an investigation into suspected insider trading activities related to the company's shares.
The investigation covered the period from 1st December 2023 to 31st January 2024.
SEBI's scrutiny revealed that a press release issued by GMDC on 8th January 2024, which announced the receipt of Environmental Clearance for the capacity expansion of the Surkha (N) Lignite Mine, did not adequately reflect the factual situation in compliance with the disclosure principles outlined in the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The company has been advised to exercise greater caution in its future disclosures and to enhance its compliance standards to prevent similar occurrences. The Administrative Warning does not carry any monetary penalty and is not expected to have a material impact on GMDC's financial position, operations, or other activities.
The communication from SEBI was received by GMDC on 12th March 2026. The warning highlights a deficiency in disclosure, specifically concerning the press release from January 2024, which SEBI found did not fully reflect the factual position regarding the Environmental Clearance.
