Netflix's One Piece live-action season 3: Release date speculation, cast and plot details - Everything we know so far

Business Upturn 2 weeks ago

Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece has officially been renewed for its third season. In fact, production for the third season is already in progress.

Here is a complete rundown of everything that has been confirmed and reliably reported on as of April 2026.

Netflix's One Piece live-action season 3: Release date speculation

Currently, there is no official date from Netflix regarding a release for the new season.

The filming of the 3rd season began in November of 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa (the same city used for the first two seasons) and will finish within the next 7 to 8 months, which puts the wrap sometime in June of 2026.

When you factor in a similar timeline for the second season where filming wrapped up early 2025, and then it was released on March 10th in 2026, we can probably expect to see the third season air in either the middle or at the end of 2027 (estimated June through September of 2027). Some places are predicting that the heavy CGI work required to create the Alabasta arc may push the release until early 2028.

There was a greater gap between the first and second seasons of the show's production and release, which had a lot of reasons (including strikes), and so it is reasonable to think the time between the second and third seasons will be shorter because filming for the third season has started prior to even having seen the completion and release of season 2.
A teaser or trailer will most likely be released at some time during the 2026 or 2027 time frame.

  • Daisy Head as Miss Doublefinger

Additional Baroque Works agents are being cast (e.g., reports of Mr. 4), and the show is "mostly cast" with filming well underway.

The cast has been praised for capturing the spirit of the source material, with early buzz highlighting exciting performances (especially for Ace and Bon Clay).

Netflix's One Piece live-action season 3: Plot details

This upcoming season will mainly be based on the Alabasta (Arabasta) arc from the popular manga and animated series One Piece by creator Eiichiro Oda (chapters155-217 of volume 14). The Straw Hat Pirates will team up with Princess Vivi (Miss Wednesday) at the end of Season 2 in order to travel to her nation, Alabasta. While they are there, they will battle with Baroque Works, an organization of criminals led by Sir Crocodile (Mr. 0), who is trying to create a civil war in Alabasta so that he can take over the country.

There are several exciting elements that are expected to be present throughout this new season, including:

- Intense battles in the desert and throughout the kingdom,
- The introduction of/meeting previously introduced favorite characters, such as:

- Portgas D. Ace (Luffy's older brother).

- Bon Clay (Mr. 2), flamboyant assassin.

- A climactic battle with Crocodile.

- Emotional moments, such as Vivi's decision about her future and the addition of a new member to the crew.

- A darker and more adult tone in comparison with previous seasons and higher stakes of epic nature due to actions taken during the season.

The producers describe this season as being monumental due to its ambition and the large number of VFX required for the battles and environments during this arc.
