Reheating These 6 Food Items Might Give You Life-Threatening Diseases

Reheating food is one of the most common processes in our day to day life as most of us are used to working for long hours and usually we do not have time to cook. Although the reheated foods save time and energy which is the most valuable commodity these days but it raises a question as foods that we reheat, is it safe to eat anymore? While cooking, the vegetables usually lose some of the nutritional value as reheating add to the process especially with the high-protein foods.

As per a recent research, reheating certain foods can be fatal to your health as they are not meant to be reheated and consumed. This is generally due to the fact how the foods will react to the bacteria while they are stored or due to the proteins that are broken down during cooking. There are more chances of getting your food poisoned through the reheating process as the bacteria will be multiplied in numbers when reheated sufficiently or when they are cooled down for some time.

Celery

It is one of the most common ingredients for most of the people as it has high nitrate content which makes it toxic, if reheated for the second time. This is due to the reaction of nitrates into nitrites which generally happens due to reheating. Most people consume celery with soup, so if you have ordered or cooked the soup consume it immediately or remove celery from it before you reheat it.

Rice

According to Foods Standards Agency (FSA), if you eat reheated rice you can suffer from food poisoning. Yes it's true! It is because of the presence of highly resistant bacteria called Bacillus Cereus that gets killed but it can produce spores which are toxic. If the rice is reheated, it can cause the spores to multiply.

Spinach

Spinach is a rich source of protein but it should not be reheated in the microwave as it also contains nitrates. During the reheating process, it can turn toxic by releasing carcinogenic properties which are cancerous in nature. It is also the source of iron which may oxidise after reheating and can generate the free radicals causing diseases.

Mushrooms

Another food in the list is mushrooms which should be eaten once they are prepared and should not be reheated. This is due to the presence of protein as they are the powerhouse of it and during the reheating; it can break the proteins further. The intake of reheated mushrooms will damage your digestive system and will generate the toxins in the body.

Potatoes

Potatoes are the great source of potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6 which increases the chances of producing deadly bacteria during the reheating procedure. To avoid such situation, you can always put the cooked potatoes inside the refrigerator and should be consumed within 1 to 2 days.

Eggs

Eggs are excellent sources of protein and if a cooked egg or a boiled egg is heated repeatedly, it can cause serious harm to your system. Cooked eggs should be eaten immediately and if kept for a longer period of time, do not reheat, just eat it cold. It's because high-protein foods contain a lot of nitrogen and this may get oxidised due to reheating.
