Maruti Ciaz is India's best selling C-Segment sedan for FY19: BEATS Honda City & Hyundai Verna
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has become the best selling C-Segment sedan in India for the fiscal year 2019 (March 2018 to March 2019), selling 46,000 units. Notably, the Ciaz has held the best seller position for three consecutive fiscal years, beating rivals such as the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The Ciaz is sold with petrol-mild hybrid, diesel-mild hybrid and diesel engine options.
Prices start from Rs. 8.2 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The Ciaz is one of the most competitively priced sedans in its class, and is known for offering big value. This is one the biggest reasons for the car's continued success in the Indian market. It's rivals such as the Hyundai Verna and Honda City are much more pricier, although they do offer additional features on higher variants.
Expressing gratitude to customers for making Ciaz a blockbuster, Mr. R.S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said
Ciaz has witnessed a resounding success in the highly competitive premium sedan segment. With a staggering 30% market share in 2018-19, Ciaz has been a preferred choice for the aspirational and evolving consumers who have a drive to excel. It is a testimony of them liking new technologies and features offered by us and we are thankful to our customers for their confidence and choice that reinforces our commitment to bring newer, advanced and greener technologies in India.
Recently, Maruti introduced a brand new, in-house 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine on the Ciaz. The new engine is meant to eventually replace the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel once the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms kick in. The new diesel engine makes 95 Bhp-225 Nm, which makes it more powerful than the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet motor's 89 Bhp-200 Nm outputs. Also, the new engine gets a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard, which offers an extra gear for more efficient highway cruising when compared to the older diesel.
However, the new diesel engine is not paired with Maruti Suzuki's mild hybrid technology - called Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System. This means that the new engine is slightly less fuel efficient than the older diesel - delivering 26.82 Kmpl compared to the 28.09 Kmpl figure of the Fiat Multijet motor. Maruti also offers the Ciaz with a 1.5 liter petrol-mild hybrid engine. This motor makes 104 Bhp-138 Nm, and is offered with two transmission options: a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed torque converter automatic.
The Ciaz gets twin airbags, ABS, speed alerts, seat belt reminder, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat mounting points as standard safety features. The car's higher variants add a reverse parking camera. A touchscreen unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay handles infotainment functions. The Ciaz is a spacious sedan that's a good buy for those who want to be chauffeured around.
