Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway Sets Global Record

India's infrastructure push has reached a new milestone with the Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway, a massive highway project that is redefining connectivity in southern India.

Spanning approximately 518-624 km, the corridor links Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh through a mix of greenfield and upgraded highway sections.

Once completed, the expressway is expected to cut travel time between Bengaluru and Vijayawada from around 10-12 hours to nearly 5-6 hours, offering a faster and more efficient alternative to existing routes.

The project, being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, is designed as a six-lane, access-controlled expressway to ensure high-speed and safe travel.

A standout feature of the corridor is its record-breaking construction pace. In January 2026, NHAI achieved multiple Guinness World Records during the building of the expressway, including milestones in continuous bituminous concrete laying, highlighting India's growing engineering capabilities.

Construction is progressing across multiple sections, with the project divided into several packages handled by leading infrastructure firms. The expressway is expected to be completed around 2026-2027, significantly improving connectivity, reducing logistics costs, and boosting economic activity across the region.

Beyond faster travel, the Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway is set to transform regional development by improving access to markets, enhancing freight movement, and supporting industrial and agricultural growth across both states.
