Indian Railways has achieved a major production milestone with the rollout of its 100th Vande Bharat Express from the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli.
The achievement marks a significant jump from 2018, when the fleet began with just two trainsets.
From Limited Start to Large-Scale Production
The Vande Bharat programme began at the Integral Coach Factory and has since expanded production to the Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala and the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli. This spread reflects how quickly India has scaled up domestic train manufacturing capacity.
Testing Before Passenger Service
The newly rolled out 16-coach chair-car trainset will not enter service immediately. It will first undergo oscillation and performance trials to check ride stability, safety standards, and overall operational efficiency before being cleared for passengers.
Focus on Engineering Upgrades
According to official statements, the Raebareli-built trainset includes several design and engineering improvements aimed at boosting reliability, safety, and ride quality. The upgrades are part of an ongoing effort to refine performance with each new generation of trains.
Strengthening Domestic Rail Manufacturing
The milestone highlights India's growing capability in high-speed train production and its push toward self-reliant railway manufacturing. With multiple production centres now active, Vande Bharat trains have become a symbol of rapid industrial scaling within the country's rail network.
