Kerala is aiming to attract around ₹10,000 crore, or $1 billion, in shipbuilding investments from multiple investors as the state pushes to build a stronger maritime ecosystem.
The investment target is part of the state's broader Mission Samudra plan, which seeks to expand Kerala's presence across shipbuilding and other maritime sectors. The government has clarified that the ₹10,000 crore figure represents the combined investment potential of multiple projects and investors, rather than a single conglomerate.
The plan comes as Kerala looks to leverage its coastline, ports and existing maritime infrastructure to attract new investments and strengthen its position as a shipbuilding and maritime hub.
The state's strategy also aligns with the growing importance of ports such as Vizhinjam and Kochi, while established shipbuilding infrastructure provides a base for further expansion.
If successful, the investment push could bring new manufacturing capacity, strengthen the maritime supply chain and create fresh opportunities for employment and industrial growth in Kerala.
The broader goal is to transform Kerala's maritime potential into a major engine of economic growth, with shipbuilding emerging as a key focus area.
