The Indian Navy has taken delivery of 'Nipun', the second indigenous Diving Support Vessel (DSV) built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) at Visakhapatnam . Developed with nearly 75% indigenous content , the vessel marks another milestone in India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and strengthens domestic defence shipbuilding capabilities.
Designed for specialised underwater operations, Nipun is equipped with advanced deep-sea saturation diving systems, a side diving stage, and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for underwater inspection, diver monitoring and salvage missions. It will also serve as the mother ship for the Indian Navy's Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV), enabling rapid rescue and evacuation during submarine emergencies.
The induction of Nipun is expected to significantly enhance the Navy's capabilities in deep-sea diving, submarine rescue, underwater repair and salvage operations, while reinforcing India's growing self-reliance in advanced naval platforms and maritime defence technologies.
