Industrialists Yohan and Michelle Poonawalla have invested an undisclosed amount in Optimized Solutions Ltd, marking their entry into India's defence and security technology ecosystem.

The company operates across defence, aerospace, space and critical technologies, including nuclear power.

Optimized Solutions develops strategic electronics and deep-tech solutions for strategic and commercial organisations. The company has worked closely with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and contributed to major programmes including Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan by supplying critical electronics and technology. It has also worked on projects involving multiple Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories and contributed to the indigenisation of critical subsystems for the Indian Army and Air Force.

The company's capabilities span electronic modules, semiconductor technologies and other advanced systems. Optimized Solutions is also expanding into complete satellite platforms in India, aiming to develop integrated capabilities across space and deep-tech manufacturing.

Yohan Poonawalla, chairman of Poonawalla Engineering Group, said the investment reflects the growing role of indigenous technology, advanced engineering and private enterprise in India's defence sector. The Poonawallas said they would support Optimized Solutions' efforts in technology development, innovation and advanced manufacturing.

The investment comes as India's defence and space sectors expand domestic production and private-sector participation. India's defence production reached a record ₹1.78 lakh crore in FY2025-26, while defence exports touched ₹38,424 crore. The private sector accounted for ₹17,353 crore, or 45.16%, of defence exports during the year.

Optimized Solutions reported group revenue of ₹93 crore in FY26 and currently has an order book worth about ₹140 crore, according to a subsequent Fortune India report. The company expects its order book to grow significantly as demand for indigenous defence, space and sovereign technologies increases.
