Zoho has built its own cloud infrastructure to run its applications instead of relying on major providers such as AWS and Google Cloud, co-founder Sridhar Vembu said.
The company has now opened this infrastructure to developers through Catalyst, its serverless platform.
Zoho plans to make Catalyst free for students, enabling them to build and deploy applications without worrying about infrastructure expenses. The company said the goal is to provide developers with the infrastructure needed to turn ideas into real products.
Vembu said Zoho developed key cloud components in-house, including databases, identity, messaging, search, storage and computing. He also said Zoho operates its services on company-owned hardware and software frameworks built on technologies including Linux and PostgreSQL.
The initiative is part of Zoho's broader investment in Catalyst, which is also being used by developers outside the Zoho ecosystem.
