Patna: Taking the Bihar government's drive to boos sugar sector, the senior officials on Wednesday inspected a proposed site for setting up a new sugar mill in Nawada district
K. Senthil Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the state's sugarcane industry department and district in-charge, visited the identified land in Makhanpur village under Warsaliganj block. During the visit, District Magistrate Ravi Prakash briefed him on the details of the site. Other senior officials, including administrative and sugarcane department officers, were also present, Zee News reported.
The inspection comes as the state government moves ahead with plans to restart closed sugar mills and set up 25 new units. Around 100 acres of land have been identified in Makhanpur for the proposed project.
Officials said the area is well-suited for sugarcane cultivation due to fertile soil and strong irrigation facilities, which support high-quality crop production. Good road connectivity to the site is also expected to ease transport.
The possibility of reopening a sugar mill that has remained shut since 1993, along with setting up a new unit, has generated optimism among local farmers. The project is expected to boost farm incomes, create jobs and support overall development in the region.
Kumar directed officials to encourage farmers to increase sugarcane cultivation so that adequate supply is ensured for the proposed mill. He also urged farmers to take advantage of government schemes to expand cultivation.
District Magistrate Ravi Prakash said groundwork to promote sugarcane development has already begun, and a meeting related to the sector will be held in Warsaliganj soon. He added that necessary steps are being taken to move the project forward at the earliest.
