Gopalganj: A group of investors from the United States on Tuesday inspected the long-closed Sasamusa sugar mill in Bihar, raising fresh hopes about its possible revival.
The visiting investors, Shoaib Malik and Adil Ashraf, reviewed different sections of the mill to assess its current condition and discuss the scope for restarting operations, Hindustan reported.
During the visit, they closely examined the machinery, buildings, warehouse, boiler unit and the sugarcane procurement centre. They also interacted with officials and local residents to understand the challenges faced by the mill and explored the resources needed for repair and reopening.
Malik said the mill had once served as an economic backbone for farmers and workers in the region, adding that there is strong potential for it to become operational again.
Ashraf noted that restarting the mill would help farmers secure fair prices for their produce and create more job opportunities at the local level.
Officials said this is the fourth group of investors to inspect the facility. Earlier teams had identified shortage of land as a major hurdle. However, the latest visit has been seen as a positive development.
Local leaders, including Pramod Kumar Patel of the Janata Dal (United), welcomed the move and assured full support for efforts to revive the mill.
