Domestic Sugar Prices Slump Amid Ample Supply
Domestic sugar prices witnessed a sharp decline, with prices in both Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh falling by around ₹300-350 per quintal.
The weakness was primarily attributed to ample supply and subdued buying interest, while prices in Uttar Pradesh remained under pressure amid government measures aimed at keeping retail sugar prices under control.
In Maharashtra, sugar prices declined by around ₹300 per quintal, while Uttar Pradesh prices eased by approximately ₹350 per quintal. The broad-based decline across both major producing states indicates continued pressure on the market, with ample availability limiting the scope for a near-term recovery.
Kolhapur S-grade sugar is currently quoted at around ₹4,500-4,600 per quintal, compared with ₹4,600-4,700 per quintal for M-grade sugar in Muzaffarnagar. The price spread between the two markets has narrowed significantly, with both markets now trading at relatively similar levels.
