Gujarat: Former minister Tushar Chaudhary seeks immediate arrests in Kantha Sugar Cooperative fraud case

Fresh attention has turned to alleged financial irregularities at the Kantha Sugar Cooperative Sugar Industry Society after senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Dr. Tushar Chaudhary called for immediate police action against accused persons who have allegedly not been arrested despite completion of the investigation and filing of a charge sheet.

In a written representation to the Director General of Police (DGP), Gujarat, Dr. Chaudhary questioned the delay in action in the case registered at Olpad Police Station in Surat district, The Blunt Times reported.

According to the representation, the investigation into the alleged multi-crore financial irregularities has already been completed and a charge sheet has been filed. However, several accused persons are reportedly still listed as wanted or absconding, even though they are allegedly moving openly and continuing their normal business activities.

Raising concerns over the handling of the matter, Dr. Chaudhary questioned why arrests had not been made if the accused were easily accessible.

He alleged that the case involves serious charges related to financial mismanagement, preparation of false documents, irregularities in stock verification and alleged wrongdoing linked to securing loans for the cooperative sugar society.

Seeking stronger intervention, the Congress Legislature Party leader urged the DGP to order an independent and high-level review of the case. He also demanded that accountability be fixed for delays in arresting the accused.

Dr. Chaudhary further stated that if any official had attempted to protect or shield the accused, departmental and legal action should be initiated without delay.

Emphasising the broader impact of the case, the former Union Minister said public trust in institutions depends on transparent and impartial enforcement of the law. He added that timely action was necessary not only to ensure justice but also to maintain confidence in both the cooperative sector and the legal system.

The representation has brought renewed focus on the Kantha Sugar Cooperative case, with calls growing for accountability and prompt action against all accused named in the charge sheet.
