Gorakhpur: Transgender Devotee Prema Builds ₹85 Lakh Vishweshwar Nath Shiva Temple
A remarkable story of devotion and determination has emerged from Gorakhpur , where a transgender devotee named Prema has constructed a grand temple dedicated to Lord Shiva . Located in the Padri Bazaar area under Jungle Matadin locality, the Vishweshwar Nath Temple stands as a symbol of faith, perseverance, and inclusive service.
The temple has been built at an estimated cost of ₹85 lakh, entirely funded through Prema's lifetime earnings and contributions received during social engagements. Unlike many religious structures, the temple is not dedicated to any specific group but has been opened for the entire community, reflecting a spirit of inclusivity.
The much-awaited Pran Pratishtha ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 24, when elaborate religious rituals will formally consecrate the shrine. The event is expected to witness the presence of local residents, devotees, and dignitaries. Religious proceedings will be led by Kundan Upadhyay, who will serve as the chief patron for the ceremony. Preparations are currently underway, with extensive arrangements being made to decorate the temple premises.
Prema, who has been residing in the area along with disciples for nearly six decades, described the temple as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Reflecting on the journey, she shared that after years of earning and sustaining herself, she wanted to leave behind a spiritual legacy for society in the form of a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Beyond religious devotion, Prema's life has been deeply rooted in social service. Over the years, she has contributed to community welfare by helping construct a public road, supporting the marriages of three girls from economically weaker families, and assisting residents in various ways. Her continuous grassroots efforts have earned her recognition and respect in the locality.
Residents believe that the Vishweshwar Nath Temple is more than just a place of worship—it is a testament to inclusive faith and selfless service. As the consecration ceremony approaches, the temple is set to become a significant spiritual and social landmark in the region.
