Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma was fined and handed a demerit point by the IPL following the win over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 2. The southpaw was fined 25 percent of his match fee for using obscene language during the game.
The match referee decided to sanction the opener, who was found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which is related to obscene language and is heard by spectators or viewers after getting picked up by stump microphones or other mediums. This may include frustration due to poor performance or circumstances.
Abhishek Sharma has accepted the charges from the Indian Premier League.
"Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 percent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," read the statement from the IPL.
The incident was not revealed, but it seems to have occurred when Abhishek was furious after being dismissed. Varun Chakravarthy took his catch, and the matter was referred to the third umpire, who declared the batter out despite doubts in the fairness of the catch.
Abhishek was at his best during the game against KKR. He scored 48 runs off 21 balls, laced with 4 boundaries and 4 sixes. He played a key role in SRH's total of 226, which was enough to win the game by 65 runs as KKR were dismissed for 161 in 16 overs. He added 82 runs for the first wicket with his fellow opener in 5.4 overs.
Abhishek will next be seen in action when SRH take on Lucknow Super Giants in their first home game of the 19th season on April 5.
