Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) director of cricket Mo Bobat has revealed that pacer Yash Dayal will not be a part of the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, even though he is a contracted player.
The defending champions were slammed for retaining the player before the auction. However, his absence from the ongoing training camp in Bengaluru led to speculations of him not being part of the team.
It has been confirmed that Dayal will not be competing for the Bengaluru side this season due to a personal situation.
"Yash is dealing with a personal situation. He remains under contract, but he won't be playing this season," Bobat said.
Dayal was one of the standout performers for RCB in 2025, taking 13 wickets as the franchise went on to win the IPL title for the first time. He is dealing with legal proceedings, which have led to his exclusion.
For RCB, it is a big setback considering his experience and partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. Without him, Bengaluru will have to rely on other bowlers and overseas depth to maintain the balance in the bowling unit. Since he still has a contract, the team management can't seek a replacement for him.
RCB are not ready to cancel his contract, but his availability depends on legal matters. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match of the 19th season on March 28.
Bhuvneshwar, Hazlewood, Nuwan Thushara, Jacob Duffy, Rasikh Salam, Abhinandan Singh, Mangesh Yadav, and Romario Shepherd are the other speedsters in the team.
Yash Dayal's cases
Yash Dayal has been booked in two cases for sexual exploitation. The first FIR was registered in Ghaziabad, where a woman accused him of exploitation under the pretext of marriage during their relationship.
The second case was filed under the POCSO Act in Jaipur. A teenager revealed that she was sexually assaulted by Yash Dayal, including during the IPL 2025, after promising to help in her career.
