Yuvraj Singh has joined Delhi Capitals as their assistant and batting coach ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season.
The position will mark Yuvraj's first official coaching assignment.
Since retiring, however, the former India all-rounder has worked closely with several cricketers, including Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh, and has played an important role in their development.
Yuvraj Reunites With Ganguly and Delhi Franchise
The appointment will bring Yuvraj back together with Sourav Ganguly, his former India captain, who was recently named Delhi Capitals' new head coach.
Yuvraj also has a previous association with the franchise as a player. Delhi signed him for INR 16 crore at the 2015 IPL auction, making him the most expensive purchase in the tournament's history at the time.
His return now comes in a coaching capacity as the Capitals attempt to rebuild under Ganguly and end their long wait for a maiden IPL championship.
World Cup Winner Adds Vast Experience
Yuvraj brings considerable big-match experience to Delhi's support staff. He was a central figure in India's title-winning campaigns at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
The former all-rounder appeared in 132 IPL matches during his playing career, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets.
His international career spanned 17 years and included 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India. Delhi Capitals will hope his knowledge of batting under pressure and his experience of major tournaments can benefit their players during the 2027 season.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family,” said Parth Jindal, the DC’s chairman. “Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad.”
Yuvraj Singh, meanwhile, shared his excitement at beginning a new chapter with DC.
“I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches,” he said. “Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad.”
