Dinesh Karthik Credits IPL for Indian Cricket's Success

Dinesh Karthik, former Indian cricketer and commentator has credited IPL (Indian Premier League) for the success of Indian cricket. There have been several statements from several cricket experts and former players that India can play two to three different teams all at the same time due to bench strength.

Michael Vaughan, Mitchell Starc, and many more have expressed this notion. The latest one to say this is Karthik, and Karthik actually also digressed the reason for why it is so.

“The IPL has brought out a winning mentality in all our players. With the influx of money and the financial benefits that a lot of the teams receive, and in turn the stakeholders, a lot of it has been put back in infrastructure. So, when infrastructure grows, eventually the quality of sport develops as well,” Karthik told ANI.

Karthik Says IPL the Richest Cricket League in the World

While we don’t have the exact numbers right now, but there’s no denying that IPL is the richest cricketing league in the world. This puts BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) in a very commanding position globally. BCCI makes a lot of money through the IPL streaming rights and ticketing revenues. Dinesh Karthik has played several seasons of IPLright from the start to the very last season, which was in 2024.

The board then reinvests this money into improving cricketing infrastructure not just in India, but also in the neighbouring nations like Nepal and Afghanistan. BCCI also pushes more and more money into the domestic cricket setup allowing players to make a significant amount of money right from their young days. It incentivises the players to do better and better each time they step out in the field.

“We can say that since the IPL has become a part of Indian cricket’s fabric, they can now field two to three teams in international cricket at the same time, and almost compete with each one of them. Right now, India is in a very privileged place where they have such a good assortment of cricketers across skill sets,” Karthik added.
