IPL 2025: 'It's actually making me laugh that SRH chased it with 2 overs to spare' - Shreyas Iyer After SRH's Win Over PBKS

Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer appeared helpless as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) completed the second-highest chase in IPL history.

SRH successfully chased down the 246-run target with nine balls to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 12, ending their four-match losing streak in the 2025 season.

PBKS seemed strong favorites after posting a commanding total, with Iyer leading the charge with a brilliant 82 off 36 balls. However, SRH’s batters, undeterred by their recent poor form, took control of the game. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put together a stunning 171-run partnership for the opening wicket in just 12.2 overs, with Sharma scoring a brilliant century.

PBKS’ bowlers struggled against SRH‘s attack, with Lockie Ferguson injuring himself early. They failed to build pressure, as spinners Maxwell and Chahal were off form, and impact sub Yash Thakur was ineffective.

“I think it was a fantastic total to be honest. It’s actually making me laugh that they (SRH) chased it with 2 overs to spare. We could have taken a few catches, but he (Abhishek) was lucky. He was exceptional. In a nutshell we didn’t bowl to our expectations, we have to go to the drawing board and make amends."

"The opening partnership (between Abhishek and Head) was phenomenal, they didn’t give us too many opportunities to capitalize,” Shreyas Iyer said during the post-match presentation (via Cricbuzz).

Abhishek Sharma played a match-winning knock of 141 runs off just 55 balls, leading SRH's remarkable run chase. Despite a slow start to the season, the young batter made a powerful statement with his innings, which featured 14 fours and 10 sixes, striking at an impressive rate of 256.36.

PBKS Drop to 6th in IPL 2025 Points Table After Second Loss in Three Games

PBKS began their 2025 campaign with a strong start, securing back-to-back wins over Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, they faced their first defeat of the season against Rajasthan Royals (RR) before bouncing back with a victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Next, PBKS will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mullanpur on Tuesday, April 15.
