India's teenage batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who played a crucial part in India's Under-19 World Cup victory earlier this month, will be skipping his Class 10 board exams this year.
There had been widespread speculation about whether the 14-year-old could manage the exams, but his cricketing commitments have taken priority.
Having spent much of 2025 touring with India Under-19 and India A, Suryavanshi has had little time to focus on academics. The left-handed batter, from Tajpur, Bihar, studies at Modesty School and was scheduled to take his exams from 17 February to 11 March.
His coach, Manish Ojha, confirmed that Suryavanshi will miss the boards to concentrate on preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. After a standout debut in 2025, the young star is set to play a key role for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 and has already joined their pre-season camp.
"He won't be giving the Class X exams. He is currently in Nagpur preparing for the upcoming IPL. And He has already joined Rajasthan Royals for a pre-season camp," Ojha told India Today.
Earlier, Neel Kishore, principal of Podar International School in Samastipur, where Sooryavanshi was scheduled to take his board exams, had confirmed that he would appear for the tests and emphasized that his rising fame would not warrant any special treatment. However, the teenage cricketer will now be skipping the exams this year.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Performance In The U-19 World Cup
Vaibhav Suryavanshi stole the spotlight at the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026, delivering one of the most memorable final innings in the tournament's history. His explosive 175 off just 80 balls against England featured 15 fours and 15 sixes - the highest number of boundaries ever in a single U19 World Cup innings.
He ended the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 439 runs in seven matches at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate near 170. With a century and three fifties, Sooryavanshi was instrumental in India's title-winning campaign, earning both the Player of the Match award in the final and the Player of the Tournament honor.
His power-hitting was equally remarkable. Suryavanshi smashed 30 sixes throughout the tournament, shattering Dewald Brevis' previous record of 18 and setting a new benchmark for the most sixes in U19 World Cup history.
