Chennai Super Kings' batter Sanju Samson delivered a fiery performance against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, smashing a brilliant century that powered his team past the 200-run mark on Thursday evening.
He brought up his hundred on the final ball of the innings, after which MI players and his India teammates- Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya-walked up to congratulate the wicketkeeper on his milestone.
After earning the Player of the Match award in CSK's dominant 103-run win over MI in the El Clasico encounter, Samson described the knock as one of the most special moments of his career.
He explained that instead of pre-planning, he focused on assessing the pitch conditions, particularly as the ball moved early on and batting became more challenging after the powerplay.
"Feels great to score a century in Wankhede vs MI. I am just looking at the conditions. The ball was swinging around and holding a bit. After the power play, we kept losing wickets. I thought it's important for a settled batsman to bat through."
"The game tells you what to do. You don't have to be premeditating. With the experience I have, the team comes first," Samson said during the post-match presentation.
The CSK batter also highlighted the need for adaptability and a strong sense of responsibility within a young squad, noting that the team's bounce-back after a run of defeats was a positive sign.
"It is my responsibility to understand the game. It's a young team, but the attitude we've shown after three losses is commendable. Every game is important; we need to be ready and enjoy," he noted.
Sanju Samson also spoke about the atmosphere at the Wankhede Stadium, describing it as a memorable experience while representing CSK. "It's all new for me, so much yellow at Wankhede," he remarked.
