[WATCH] Rishabh Pant Dismissed For 7 In Unlucky Run-Out In LSG Vs DC IPL 2026 Match

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant suffered an unfortunate run-out during their IPL 2026 opener against Delhi Capitals at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, April 1. The wicketkeeper-batter was caught backing up too far at the non-striker's end and was dismissed for just seven runs off nine balls, with LSG losing their first wicket at a score of 19.

His move up the batting order thus failed to make an impact. The incident occurred in the third over of the innings. Mukesh Kumar delivered a good-length ball, which Mitchell Marshattempted to drive straight. However, the bowler got a fingertip deflection onto the ball, which then struck the stumps.

Pant, well outside his crease, had no time to recover and was run out. The LSG captain appeared visibly frustrated as he made his way back to the pavilion. Watch the video here:

Rishabh Pant continued his poor run against Delhi Capitals, marking his third straight failure. He had two ducks in IPL 2025 and scored 269 runs in 13 innings overall, including an unbeaten 118 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite this, Lucknow Super Giants retained him for INR 27 crore.

His record as an IPL opener remains weak, except for a 69 in 2016. IPL 2026 was his first time opening again since that season.

Lucknow Super Giants Lose Early Wickets Against Delhi Capitals In IPL 2026 Clash

A disciplined bowling and sharp fielding effort by Delhi Capitals saw them remove Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, and Ayush Badoni early in the IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants. Pant was run out, while skipper Axar Patel dismissed Markram for 11 off 8 balls. T Natarajan then removed Badoni for a duck.

At the time of writing, LSG were 49/3 in 6.3 overs, with Mitchell Marsh (21 off 19) and Nicholas Pooran at the crease. Earlier, Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl first. Notably, LSG haven't beaten DC in their last four meetings, with their previous win coming in 2023.
