Indian batter Shreyas Iyer shared a touching moment with his mother, Rohini Iyer, after India's thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy final.
The match took place on Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Opting to bowl first, India restricted New Zealand to 251 in 50 overs, with Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy claiming two wickets each. During the chase, skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with a crucial 76 off 83 balls.
Shreyas Iyer (48) and Axar Patel (29) made valuable contributions, while KL Rahul's unbeaten 34 guided India to victory with an over to spare. Shreyas Iyer was India’s top scorer and the tournament’s second-highest, with 243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60, including two fifties. He trailed only Player of the Tournament Rachin Ravindra, who scored 263 runs in four innings at 65.75, with two centuries.

"Feeling ecstatic. This is my first ICC trophy, kinda overwhelmed looking at each and every one in the dressing room. I love to go under pressure, I thrive. Not able to get a big one but immensely satisfying to contribute to win. These are the lucky earrings, they’ll stay on."
The right-handed batter will return to action as the captain of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, beginning on March 22.
