Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer was seen signing an autograph and taking a picture with a girl at a Mumbai restaurant ahead of the limited-overs series against England starting on January 22.

Shreyas Iyer named Punjab Kings captain for IPL 2025

The 30-year-old cricketer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title, has been appointed captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the upcoming season. After parting ways with KKR post-IPL 2024, Iyer entered the IPL 2025 mega auction, where Punjab secured him for ₹26.75 crore, making him the second-highest bidder of the auction.

Shreyas Iyer will reunite with head coach Ricky Ponting at Punjab Kings, having previously worked with him at Delhi Capitals. The Indian cricketer expressed that he is honored by the role and excited for the upcoming seasons.

“I am honored that the team has reposed its faith in me. I am looking forward to working again with Coach Ponting. The team looks strong, with a great mix of potential and proven performers. I hope to repay the faith shown by the management to deliver our maiden title,” Iyer said in an official statement.

Ponting expressed enthusiasm about working with Shreyas Iyer once again. The former Australian captain is confident that the team will perform well under Iyer’s capable leadership.
