"6 teams have not qualified," Parthiv Patel hits back LSG coach's "predictable" remark on GT fast bowling

"6 teams have not qualified," Parthiv Patel hits back LSG coach's "predictable" remark on GT fast bowling

The Gujarat Titans assistant coach, Parthiv Patel, has taken a cheeky dig at Tom Moody after the Lucknow Super Giants director called their bowling lineup "predictable." Gujarat Titans will be playing Qualifier 2 tomorrow against Rajasthan Royals after RCB defeated them heavily in Qualifier 1.

On the eve of the match, Patel addressed the media, reminding them that GT finished at number 2 in the points table. This proves that they have been doing something right about their planning. In the pre-match press conference, he said,

“We were sitting pretty at number 2 in the points table. I know other teams can think whatever they want to. 6 teams have not qualified, and I know that the references which you have come from, that I know Tom Moody has said about GT."

“But see, we have finished number 2. And we know what kind of cricket we want to play. And we back ourselves to give results."

Patel further said that GT has been consistently playing the playoff since their inception, which proved his point again.

“Since GT’s inception, four out of five years, we have qualified. Results are there for everyone to see. Everybody has their own different way of playing. We have our own style of playing. Even in the first half of the tournament, we were not doing that great. We were just doing okay."

He added,

"But we still stuck to our process. We trust in our ability. We know what we can do. And that is something which we will try to do tomorrow as well."

What did Tom Moody say about GT's bowling?

After RCB defeated GT by 92 runs in the Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala, Tom Moody stated that GT's bowling attack has become highly predictable and vulnerable on flat batting surfaces.

Moody compared GT's bowling to the Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) batting. He noted that just as SRH's explosive batting unit collapses when a pitch offers movement, GT's bowling struggles when the surface offers absolutely nothing. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo,

“They don’t have the real extreme change-ups of pace and variety. They do become predictable for that. It’s a bit like Sunrisers [Hyderabad]. As soon as the Sunrisers are put on a surface that’s doing a bit, that batting line-up really struggles. So, it’s the complete opposite."
