New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has revealed their central contracts list for 2026-27 and there are some significant shifts. The biggest story is the return of Devon Conway who has earned a central contract after being on a casual contract for the last two seasons.
The contracts officially start on August 1st, 2026, and run until July 31st, 2027. This announcement comes at a critical juncture for New Zealand's cricket team as they face an extremely busy international schedule particularly with Test matches.
Conway's inclusion will boost the batting line up considerably especially in the wake of Kane Williamson's retirement. The left-handed batter has remained a key member of the national side in all three formats despite not having a full central contract in recent years.
He had chosen to have flexibility to compete in global T20 leagues but has now decided to make himself available again for red-ball cricket due to the demanding Test schedule ahead.
Head coach Rob Walter was delighted with Conway's return to the contract list
He said :
"Devon has been a regular member of the side in all three formats for some time now even whilst on a casual contract so it's great to have a player of his calibre back on the central contract list especially with the amount of exciting cricket coming up,"
Blair Tickner Rewarded for Strong Performances
Another notable name added to the central contract list is fast bowler Blair Tickner. He has been rewarded with a full-time central contract for his consistent and impressive performances for the Central Stags and New Zealand.
Tickner recently caught the eye with a five-wicket haul in an ODI against Ireland and has shown a real hunger to prove himself on the international stage. His selection indicates New Zealand's commitment to building depth in their pace attack heading into a busy period of cricket.
Zak Foulkes and Mitch Hay have retained their places on the central contract list and will be important players in the years to come, as both have already made their debuts for New Zealand and represent the future of New Zealand cricket.
There is also a mix of established stars who will remain central contracts with the likes of Mitchell Santner (captain), Rachin Ravindra, Tom Latham, and Matt Henry all featuring on the list and bringing invaluable experience and consistency.
New Zealand Cricket is expected to release their casual contract list over the coming weeks. It is believed that players such as Tim Seifert and Finn Allen will be included on the list.
