BCCI awaits Title sponsor as guidelines got stricter, deadline passes by two weeks

Cricket Gully 1 week ago

The Indian cricket team is yet to find a title sponsor even though the the deadline has passed by two weeks. A Cricbuzz report suggested the Board of Control for Cricket is in conversation with multiple partners, but the guidelines for the sponsors are making the task tougher.

Earlier reports suggested that the board engaged in talks with brands ike Google Gemini, SBI Life, IDFC First Bank and even Spinny. But nothing yet has been confirmed.

What are the categories chosen by BCCI for title sponsors?

As per the earlier guidelines, the BCCI had officially ruled out the brands involving tobacco, liquor, fantasy games and gambling. For the title sponsor hunt, a few more categories have been added.

The restrictions are on companies involving tyre, paint and sports apparel. The prospective bidders got an ITT document that mentioned that companies dealing with tyres, tubes and flaps can't bid. It even specified that if the companies are manufacturing, marketing, distributing or selling such items, they are restricted from bidding.

Companies that operate in athleisure wear, performance wear, sports merchandise and equipment, and even paint, waterproofing and wallpaper companies can't bid too.

Given the regulations, it bars top companies like MRF, CEAT, Berger Paints, JSW Paints, Nike, Puma and Decathlon to bid the title sponsors tag. Well, there has been no report on whether these brands have actually expressed their willingness or not.

Why did the BCCI make such restrictions?

Apollo Tyres acts as the National Lead Sponsor of the Indian team. Adidas is the lead jersey sponsor, while Asian Paints is the team's kid sponsor. The new regulations regarding the title sponsor have been made to avoid any clash with the already existing key sponsors of the board.

Notably, as part of the tender process, the BCCI estimates that approximately 35 chargeable matches could be staged during the rights period. However, this estimate does not constitute any representation, warranty, commitment or minimum guarantee.

The actual number of matches will be determined by the schedule finalised by the BCCI.
