The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) maintain their track record of generating excitement during every IPL season. The five-time Indian Premier League champions and two-time Champions League Twenty20 winners maintain their status as popular teams because they have one of the largest fan bases in worldwide T20 cricket.
CSK batters who perform well during the upcoming IPL 2026 season will establish themselves as major contenders for the Orange Cap award. The tournament has seen three CSK players win the cap since its inception, with Ruturaj Gaikwad being the most recent winner after scoring more than 600 runs during CSK's championship season in 2021.
Three top CSK players will compete for the Orange Cap during the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
Ruturaj Gaikwad:
The CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad required extended time away from the IPL 2025 season which led MS Dhoni to take over as team leader. Gaikwad will return as the team's leading batsman in every match after his full recovery from the previous season.
The elegant right-handed batter achieved his third consecutive season with more than 550 runs during three of his four IPL seasons with CSK before his IPL 2025 absence. The 2021 season marked his best performance which earned him the Orange Cap after he scored 635 runs across 16 innings.
Gaikwad will also enter IPL 2026 in excellent form after a strong domestic season for the Maharashtra cricket team. He achieved 413 runs through his seven innings at the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy with an exceptional average of 82.60. The stylish batter also smashed a brilliant 83-ball 105 against South Africa national cricket team during his most recent international outing for India national cricket team a few months ago.
Sanju Samson:
CSK fielding Sanju Samson from his home state of Kerala enables him to compete in Tamil Nadu which connects him to his hometown. CSK acquired the seasoned IPL batsman from Rajasthan Royals through a trade before the IPL 2026 auction which involved the transfer of all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
Samson previously led the Royals in several seasons, but he may now enjoy playing with greater freedom in IPL 2026 without the added pressure of captaincy.
The 31-year-old player begins IPL 2026 after achieving outstanding success with the Indian national team during the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He produced three consecutive scores in the 80s, including a powerful 46-ball 89 in the final. Samson eventually won the Player of the Tournament award and will aim to carry that strong international form into the IPL stage.
Ayush Mhatre:
Ayush Mhatre India’s batting prospect who plays for CSK made his IPL debut at the age of 17 during IPL 2025. The aggressive Mumbai top-order batter showed his batting skills by scoring 240 runs during seven innings while achieving a batting average of 188.97.
Mhatre launched his batting assault against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Lungi Ngidi and Krunal Pandya during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru which became the championship team. He achieved 94 runs through 48 balls which included nine fours and five sixes.
Ayush Mhatre will become a leading run-scorer candidate for IPL 2026 because of his upcoming matches with CSK which follow his triumph at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 with India.
