After becoming the face of IPL 2026 thanks to his phenomenal record-breaking performances for Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's popularity is on the rise.
The 15-year-old has enthralled everyone by playing fearless cricket throughout the season for his franchise.
Following his sensational 97 against SRH in the Eliminator, rumours started making rounds of Sooryavanshi signing for Mumbai Indians in what could be one of the most expensive transfers in IPL history.
Several posts that went viral across X and Instagram stated that Mumbai Indians had put forth a lucrative offer that included a sum of money, and an apartment in Mumbai that cost Rs. 30 crores for Sooryavanshi to move out of his current franchise, the Rajasthan Royals. These posts caused a stir amongst fans.
What's the Truth Behind the Viral Claim?
There is no truth to the rumours claiming that Mumbai Indians have offered Rs 30 crore apartment to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The rumours are absolutely baseless as there is no official confirmation of any such agreement between the young prodigy and the five-time IPL champions.
It is reported that confusion began after news of Sooryavanshi buying property in Mumbai from his cricket income and endorsements started circulating. However, the actual price of the property was close to Rs. 2.5-3 crore, and it was not 30 crore as wrongly claimed by social media accounts and fans. Fans are claiming that an extra zero was added by mistake which led to the confusion of an expensive transaction.
Even former IPL chairman, Lalit Modi, weighed in and debunked the claims.
A Move Would be Against IPL Rules
Besides the factually incorrect figures, a move of this nature mid-season is impossible in the IPL due to its regulations. All trades are to be completed within the pre-season transfer windows prior to the IPL auction and no team can make private signings or transfers while the season is ongoing.
Additionally, the BCCI has specific payment and salary cap regulations for each franchise. Any financial advantages that are not accounted for within the team purse may lead to serious punishment.
Rajasthan Royals currently hold Sooryavanshi’s contract as they signed him for 1.1 crore and unless RR decide to agree to a transfer in the future, he cannot be a part of another IPL franchise.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Reported Financial Figures:
| Details | Amount |
| RR Contract Value | ₹1.1 Crore |
| Mumbai Apartment Value | ₹2.5-₹3 Crore |
| Additional Reward | Tata Curvv EV |
For the moment, Sooryavanshi is entirely engrossed in Rajasthan Royals' pursuit of playoff victory as they stand ready for Qualifier 2.
