India made history by winning their third consecutive ICC title when they defeated New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final.

Hardik Pandya attracted public interest after the historic victory when he made significant remarks during a live television interview while praising his girlfriend Mahieka Sharma. He expressed his gratitude to players who supported him throughout his cricket career and shared his upcoming cricket plans with the audience.
Pandya had a decent campaign in the tournament, even though he stayed away from the spotlight most of the time. He achieved 217 runs across nine matches, which resulted in a batting average of 27.13 and he maintained a remarkable batting rate of 160.74.
Pandya achieved nine wickets through his bowling at an economy rate of 8.82. He performed two-wicket bowling spells against Namibia and Pakistan and during the second semi-final match against England. Pandya took one wicket in the final match while he scored 18 runs from 13 balls, which contributed to India's total score of 255 runs.
The player made several important contributions to the team which led to their victory despite his performance not being sufficient for a match win. He discussed his relationship with Mahieka Sharma after the match while providing brief information about his upcoming international cricket career. During the post-match interview, Hardik Pandya expressed strong confidence about India winning the final.
Pandya said: “I had been saying the same thing from the beginning, that we are going to win. I already knew that we were champions and that we would come back with this trophy. I even told Mahieka the same thing, “Don’t worry, we’ve got this.” Because everyone had different expectations, but I was confident about it.”
Hardik answered the question about his future cricket schedule with a brief response that showed his appreciation for Mahieka Sharma's help during tough times.
Pandya added: “I want to play for the team for another ten years and win ten more titles. And I honestly want to say one thing, ever since Mahieka came into my life, everything has been going right. There has been win after win.”
Pandya's final game performance turned out to be his weakest showing yet he played an essential role in his team's victory through their collective strength. Sanju Samson played a brilliant innings of 89 from 46 balls which consisted of 89 runs from 46 balls. Abhishek Sharma smashed 52 off just 21 balls at the top of the order while he scored 52 runs from 21 balls. After Rachin Ravindra dismissed him early in the match Sharma lost control of the game but Ishan Kishan scored a quickfire 54 from 25 deliveries to take control.
Shivam Dube then provided a late boost by scoring 26 runs off only 8 balls which helped India reach 250 runs and establish a huge target of 256 runs against New Zealand. The Kiwis failed to respond and their team ended up getting bowled out for only 150 runs. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with four wickets while Axar Patel took three important wickets to stop New Zealand from chasing their target.
The match outcome remained unchanged because Mitchell Santner and Tim Seifert were the only players who offered resistance through their batting efforts. Abhishek Sharma achieved his final wicket through the dismissal of Jacob Duffy, which led to India winning the match and defending their title victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
