The Indian Premier League is known for big hitters and high scoring matches, but spin bowling always plays a key role in deciding games.
Most of the games take place on pitches where the bowl turn and grip especially in the middle overs. Teams that excel in spin bowling have better results in the tournament.
The upcoming IPL 2026 will have teams with effective spin bowlers, while others will stick to their limited number of key players. This article will show the ranking of all ten teams based on their spin abilities.
1. Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders have the best powerful spin bowling unit in the IPL 2026. While their fast bowlers might face injuries in the future, their spin bowling maintains their excellent performance.
The team has Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, who are taking care of the team's spinning requirements. Both bowlers have been consistent with their performance over the seasons, and they are capable of bowling in the middle overs and picking up wickets.
The team has the presence of Anukul Roy, who has been performing well as a backup option. The latter had a very good season last year in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he took 18 wickets in 11 matches. The team has the potential to bowl when needed through Rachin Ravindra. The presence of KKR makes it the best team under this category.
2. Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals team has one of the best spin bowling combinations of the tournament. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are the most skillful spin bowling duo of the last few cricket seasons.
Axar Patel possesses precise pitching skills, while Kuldeep Yadav possesses the capability of acquiring wickets through wrist spin bowling. Vipraj Nigam had shown great performance in his first season, and he has the potential to become an integral part of the team's bowling combination this season.
The team has two backup players named Tripurna Vijay and Ajay Mandal. The team also has the potential to use Tristan Stubbs to bowl when needed. The second position goes to the Delhi Capitals team due to the presence of three reliable bowling options.
3. Gujarat Titans
The Gujarat Titans have a robust spinning department with experienced players as well as bowlers who possess different skill sets.
Rashid Khan will lead the spin bowling department of the team as long as he is considered one of the best spin bowlers in the world of T20 cricket. The left-arm spinner Sai Kishore will provide bowling accuracy through his services, while Washington Sundar will provide an all-rounder who can bowl at all moments of the match.
The team also has backup players named Manav Suthar and Jayant Yadav. The captain will be given the option to use Glenn Phillips as his spin bowler when he needs a backup option. The Gujarat Titans secure the third position through robust team performance.
4. Mumbai Indians
The Mumbai Indians provide valuable spinning resources to the players of the team, but their team combination might not allow them to use of all the spinning resources at once.
The team has two major spinning members named Mitchell Santner and Allah Ghazanfar, but the team uses only one of them as per their need to maintain team balance.
Will Jacks can contribute with some overs of off-spin bowling in the middle overs. Mayank Markande is a specialist spinner, while Naman Dhir offers part-time spinning services. Mumbai Indians' fourth position in the points table is due to the availability of their team players.
5. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been very successful in the last season as their spin bowlers contributed significantly to their games.
The combination of spin bowlers, namely, Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma, has been successful in grabbing 25 wickets in the last season. The bowlers who can deliver accurate pitches have helped the team retain control over games in the middle phase.
The team has also been provided with backup bowlers like Vicky Ostwal and Swapnil Singh. Young all-rounder Jacob Bethell can also be used as an additional spin bowling option by the team. The availability of players with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team has helped them secure the fifth position.
6. Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings have traditionally depended on strong spin bowling but their current season contains weaker spin bowling resources than past seasons.
The team will use Noor Ahmad as their lead spinner. He was the most successful spinner last season with 24 wickets and will again carry a lot of responsibility.
Rahul Chahar could play when the pitch helps spin. The squad also includes Akeal Hosein and Shreyas Gopal as backup options. CSK currently ranks sixth because their present experience level in this field has decreased since previous seasons.
7. Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals improved their spin department after bringing Ravindra Jadeja back to the team through a trade.
Jadeja contributes his experience and control to the team while Ravi Bishnoi delivers an aggressive leg-spin option who can take wickets in the middle overs of games.
Vignesh Puthur serves as a backup option for the Royals. He impressed while playing for Mumbai Indians last season. Karnataka spinner Yash Raj Punja is another backup player in the squad. The team still ranks seventh despite having these alternatives.
8. Punjab Kings
Yuzvendra Chahal serves as the primary spinner for Punjab Kings who depend on him to lead their rotational spin department. He continues to be one of the most successful wicket-taking spinners in IPL history.
Harpreet Brar supports him with his left-arm spin and often bowls in important phases of the match.
The team has two spinners available with Praveen Dubey being another option. The team also picked Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly who can bowl part-time spin. Punjab has placed eighth because their overall roster lacks sufficient depth.
9. Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad field one of the most inexperienced spin departments in IPL 2026.
Zeeshan Ansari and Harsh Dubey made their first appearance last year who will participate in their second IPL season. While both have potential they still need more experience.
Liam Livingstone can bowl part-time spin and provide some support. The squad contains Krains Fuletra who is a young left-arm wrist spinner. The other part-time options available to the team include Kamindu Mendis, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. SRH holds the ninth position because their players lack significant experience.
10. Lucknow Super Giants
The spin attack of Lucknow Super Giants stands as the weakest among all teams during this current season.
Digvesh Singh Rathi impressed last year but the team does not have many other strong options. M. Siddharth and Shahbaz Ahmed are the two main backup players in the team.
Wanindu Hasaranga is part of the team but he suffered an injury during the T20 World Cup 2026. His availability for the IPL remains uncertain. Lucknow Super Giants occupy the last position because they face both injury problems and insufficient player depth.
